is it common for the cdi and rectifier on this motor to get burnt? i recently got the motor and this issue. hopefully thats the only problem with this motor. what causes the cdi and rectifier to burn up? it did not burn up on me, it burnt up on the previous owner.

loose connection on battery can cause RR to smoke
and on some where the CDI or ECU is right above the RR the heat from burning RR gets the CDI

Unfortunately it is somewhat common. The R/R has been improved. The R/R being below the CDI can damage the CDI at times.

The R/R emits a lot of heat in doing its job of managing the electrical output. That is what the cooling fins are for. For some reason it simply gets too hot at times and a fire can break out.

do you have the part number for the "improved" rectifier?

67F-81960-12-00.

Order by either the original part number or any subsequent updated part numbers and you will only get the latest part number.
