Suzuki model year identification

Dear all,
I have a DT85 Suzuki. According to the serial number, it should be an '88 (as per the serialnumber.pdf document). However, the head gasket I took off of it looks an awful lot like the gaskets sold as 11141-95505, which are for years '83 through '87. The serial number I found is on the trim assembly, so I wonder if it's not matching?
Is there a way to identify the year from something on the top unit (or the lower unit, for that matter)? I couldn't really find a serial number on the engine itself.

Thanks, Ferenc [h=1][/h]

Just looking at the service manual for a DF25 (I know, different motor).

The manual says "A second engine serial number plate is pressed into a boss on the crankcase"

The picture shows it on the very front of the crankcase.

Might want to look there...just saying.
