  • Suzuki DF 40 Engine Problem Please Help

The motor was running and it was making a funny smell the last two times it was ran. We looked at the motor and couldn't find anything wrong. Today it was making the same smell, then the check engine light came on. Then all of the sudden smoke was coming out of the engine cover. I pulled it off and realized the Rectifier & regulator was smoking. I disconnected the hot lead and unplugged the two wires that go to the Rectifier & regulator. I ran it the rest of the day and it ran fine. What does this do and what it is for? I want to try to fix the problem.
