have a 1988 VP 290dp. going to change the props and the inner prop nut wont budge. tried tapping it off with a drift like I have done many times and its not budging. so I pull out the new prop wrench that I bought.....it doesnt fit:mad:

so, any suggestions before I make a prop wrench from a section of tube.

Did you bend the tang down on the lockwasher that holds the nut in place?

big pipe wrench did not touch it. going to order a new nut and split this one to get it off.

went back at it with a bigger pipe wrench, unit in gear and a few blocks of wood. finally got it.

Old thread I know, but I just went through this with my dp-a drive. The volvo penta people don't even know what that nut is or do they have the proper wrench to remove it. Apparantly the old nut is the one with the nylock sealing ring and the new version looks like fins on an impeller. They sold me the old version with the sealing ring since that was the only wrench that would work with it, but i'm a bit concerned about it since you're not the only one who has trouble getting it off. I might put the old one back on with the locking tab. I don't particularly like the idea of having to use a pipe wrench to remove it, but I guess it's okay.
