  • Purchasing 19ft with Volvo AQ115 and 100 Leg

Gday guys, saturday Im checking out a boat with my brother too buy it is a 19ft half cab with the Volvo Penta AQ115 and 100 leg, to be honest we both have limited knowledge about what to look for when purchasing an inboard boat and Im wondering if any of you guys can maybe give me a list of everything to look for on these engines such as there flaws and general things to look for. We will be going for A on water test Saturday. The motor was apparently "rebuilt" in 2003 and had a new heatexchanger and I beleive one ring replaced on a piston Which I find very odd anyway my Bro is keen on this boat but we dont want to buy a lemon so any help on what to look for with these motors would be appreciated.Cheers.

Aq115 was 1973 to 1975. The motor is a B20 volvo car engine which is good news - plenty of secondhand parts to be had from the wrecking yards. Bad news - damn old, it'll probably need work especially in light of the 'one ring' comment. In Australia I doubt you will find part for the 100B drive, it's a dinosaur. Aldo

I knew a guy years ago that had a boat simliar to what you are describing. It was nothing but trouble. Ask them to explain why only one ring was replaced. lol

hey hey now, i own a aq130, and i just did the top end on it. not so bad but i orignially thought it was the 115. i dont know aboutt he 100 leg but i here they are old old. i have the 270. mines a 19ft walkaround close tow hat you are describing. i like the boat too it out twice before i blew the head gasket and now have to order another. the gasekt was old though so i understand. the good thing is my enigne is easy to get to so easy to work on. i think it would be good just have it all checked out.
                  Semper Fi, thank a vet.

The 100 was released in 1962 but it evolved into the 200 and then the 100B, it's the 100B that is fitted to an AQ115. The 100B and the 270 came out at the same time (1973). They are different, the 270 is designed for higher HP. http://www.volvo.com/NR/rdonlyres/6B...80_1962_en.pdf This is the 1962 100 drive http://www.volvo.com/NR/rdonlyres/98...00_1965_en.pdf 1965 200 drive http://www.volvo.com/NR/rdonlyres/91...0B_1975_en.pdf 100B http://www.volvo.com/NR/rdonlyres/B6...0D_1973_en.pdf 270270 parts (in Aus) are also becoming hard to find, but not impossible. The AQ115 and the AQ130 have the same engine.Aldo
