Started removing a friends lower unit today. not really familar with i/os. While disconecting hoses it occured to me that there is a water pump at the front of the small block chevy. Went to the manual and see nothing about a pump in the leg as in an outboard. Question is, what is the water pickup doing on the leg along with the long hose routing to the pump? Maby helps exhaust cooling? Are there any setups that take water from the boat bottom as in straight inboards? What am i missing? regards fred

no pumps in volvo legs they do draw water from them. if you wish you may add a thru hull pick up with a scoop or a screen and move the seawater intake from the leg to the thru hull. do it all the time here. helps keep the heatexcanger from getting so much grass and sand.<br /> just make sure you dont bypass any oil coolers
