I've just removed my volvo penta DP to find the source of water coming into the bilge and found a melted mangled exhaust flapper lodged at the end of my Y-Pipe by the drive. Could this cause water in the bilge? I thought it was a torn bellows, but they all look ok.

Thanks

Re: melted exhaust flapper on Volvo Penta

A melted exhaust flapper will not cause the water in the bilge, but if you burned a hole in one of the exhaust hoses (lack of water causes melted flappers and burned exhaust hoses) that could explain the water in the bilge.
Did you run it while in the water and look for water leaks? That's truly the only way you are going to find it.
