hey guys - taking the boat out tomorrow and want to change the lower unit oil. I've never done this before. It's a 1977 Glastron w/ the Volvo outdrive.

Tell me if I'm wrong:

1.) unscrew lower screw under prop to drain.
2.) replace
3.) unscrew upper screw
4.) fill w/ 30 wt.
5.) replace
6.) do all this with motor level.

is that it? what am I missing???????

thanks -
Ben

Re: volvo gear oil change

remove both screws upper and lower. refill, with the correct lubericant, from the bottom until the oil level is correct, usually there is a dipstick on the upper. insert the upper and replace the lower using new orings. do not overfill this unit as it will cause delayed shift engagement. I can always tell the guys that over filled cause they usually are on the throttle when the cone engages and it spits the upper shaft out the top of the housing. good luck and follow the service manual.
