I believe this is a 70hp engine but not sure. Serial # on motor is BB70 9324 9419. I need info on plug gap, point gap, and all other general info on the motor would be helpful.

Re: 1962 Volvo Penta 4 cylinder I/O

Hi Davis,

I'll prefis this post by saying the following specs are from a very old automotive manual, but I believe back in the 60s thats what volvo used.

Engine ID = B18B (BB70 in brackets)
80 hp.
point gap = 0.4 - 0.5 mm
Plug gap = 0.7 - 0.8 mm
timing = 17 - 19 deg @1500 rpm btdc. The manual says to do the timing with alternator disconected. I've never heard of this, maybe a misprint.
valve clearance = 0.50 - 0.55 mm in. & ex. hot or cold.

Hope this helps.

Aldo

I have got 2 of these in my 1961 WhitCraft houseboat. Interested in any info exchange, such as - where do we get parts?

Pete and All,

There is a company in Washington State, called IPD that sells performance parts for Volvo cars. As Aldo said, lots of the older VP engines are right out of the rolling stock so a lot of the parts are the same. If you do a search for "IPD" you will find it.

David
