Hello,
Looking for engine info. Maybe some good tips!
I'm replacing my old overheating 888 That I installed 5 years ago
I got a 98 Volvo package with 150 hours, power steering, duo prop and came with props and gauges. The numbers on it are 3868164 and 4112037595
I have a service manual I found here it's a EF_SX just wondering if that's the right one not sure.
Starting the swap today but woke up to a 12'' of snow! Spent all morning digging out
Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!
Rob

Wow, is that boat in for a change. You WILL NOT believe how different the boat will be. I sure hope you post the results after you run it.
It's actually an LK model, (96-97 production years). I assume the manual you are talking about is for the outdrive correct? If so, it's close, but not the right one. What kind of information are you looking? Installatiion?
The SN you gave is for the outdrive, might want to check and see if the serial number for the engine itself is actually 4110149185

Yes I'm looking for installation advice, the right manual would be great. Most of it seems strait forward. I got a prop wrench kit on order and alignment tool.
Have been reading the forums, they are a great source of info!
SN plate on the engine is 4110149185 PN 3868623
also the inside transom part SN 4111562022
The number In my first post SN 4112037595 PN 3868164 is from the air filter cover and says 5.7 GI

Re: 74 Mercruiser 302 to 98 Volvo 5.7GI swap

Been busy making a beam in the carport to remove the engine. Got a guy that wants the 302 and maybe the stern drive.

Q) He has an old all original 270 Volvo leg but not sure if the hole is wider on the Volvo

Q)I have been looking at all the wires and wonder if anyone has a online wiring pdf?
I have a manual but its not an official Volvo one.
Getting ready to pull the motor Monday!

New gauges need to be installed, all I have is the plug that fits on the engine and the end of those wires have been cut, they should have a plug. and the dash wiring is missing.... so I plan to use the old dash wires
Same with the shifter just a bunch of wires. no plugs so it will not be easy
As far as the engine/battery that should be no problem.

Between a 74 Mercruiser and a 98 Volvo, you are going to be looking at 2 completley different color coding systems and 2 different manufacturers.
Using the old wiring is not a good idea. Not even sure your old Mercruiser instruments will be compatable with the senders on the Volvo EFI engine.

the new engine came with all the gauges, tach oil pres temp trim voltmeter fuel mph and they fit in the holes of my dash, just looking for the instrument/Dash?shifter schematic because I find having them on the computer is easier to read. Yes i agree the wires are not compatable. I know i'm going to be able to figure it out just might take awhile!

Use the link below to get the wiring diagram for the instrument panel. It's basically the same as yours, just your model didn't have a wiring diagram for the inst. panel.

Here is the link that will give you the wiring diagram for your particular engine. While not as nice a diagram, it still shows the info for your engine.

You should use photobucket to post the picture big enough to see.

Now, post a picture like that, BEFORE you make it that small. Just make it fit inside the the post box.

This picture of your above post is about 735 pix wide.
