So i was starting to get the sound of dry pds bearings in my engine bay..... ordered new bearings and seals... pulled the outdrive from the vessel and found a round completely chewed up round metal object inside the flywheel cover portion... upon removing the object i fired the motor up and that noise was non existent... where did this come from????? It surprisingly enough did not destroy the bellows or anything other than scar up the fly wheel housing a bit... checked for play on my PDS and there was zero for the record...

I would still pull the PDS and flush the bearings

then I have no idea.

your raw water inlet fitting is corroded. you will want to change that.

The piece of metal was originally on the front female yoke as a retainer to keep grease in the spline. Do not loose any sleep over it, just leave it off. Do what Scott said about the water outlet fitting.
Depending on whether you have a 4 cylinder or a V8 makes servicing the pds shaft bearings hard or easy.

Im not going to remove my engine and change out perfectly good bearings... my pds is regularly serviced, what i am thinking I’ll do is pull the aft most seal and pump grease in there till i see new grease replacing the old grease and install a new seal.

If there was no water in the bellows you can get away with another season just do what you said about adding grease and install a new bellows.
