Hey guys, I’m thinking about putting the 123 distributor on my Aq131volvo engine. They make one that is suppose to have the advance curve for an Aq131 already in. It cost $450 bucks so I want to make sure it is a good upgrade and worth the money....

I know nothing about the various VP engines. So just a general word of caution. Any engine is designed with a specific advance curve. Some try to get more spunk and performance by tweaking the WOT advance upward. Bad idea that results in serious engine trouble.

If you know your Aq131's advance curve, and know a new dizzy will provide the same, not more, I suspect you'll be OK.

The factory specs for the Aq131 is 6 BTDC at 850 RPMs up to 32-36 BTDC at 4200 RPMs. The specs on the 123 ignition are 6 BTDC at 1000 rpms up to 32 BTDC at 3800 RPMs.

Wondering why you would do this? New points and condenser runs about $10. The engine cannot make more HP with the new distributer.

What make you think that you need a new dizzy?
