Volvo Penta SP290 Trim Pump Issues

Hey, iBoaters!

I'm not new to iBoats but with a serious surgery (Nov 2014) and very extended recovery since then, I'm back at trying to get our 1988 SunRunner 210 out on the water for the first time since....well, ever, for us. We bought it for a "steal" in early 2014 and promptly found out the AQ151 wasn't just locked up but was water-locked and had been for, who knows how long. But the previous owner had spent a crap-ton of money (the technically-correct GAAP term, of course) on the interior. It's absolutely gorgeous for an '88.

Anyway, I spent the better part of that summer tearing down the whole engine, researching parts (WOW, the cost!), cross-referencing between the marine and the automotive side of Volvo, and sourcing parts that wouldn't necessitate a second mortgage. Ultimately, I re-sleeved the engine, acquired used pistons (thanks to 3Bay!), the crank needed spun welded and re-ground, and the entire rotating assembly balanced. Long story short: In late-summer 2014, I was able to get it bench tested and tuned. HAPPY DAY!

Then, right before my surgery, I realized the entire helm needed re-wired - critters had, had their hayday while the hull was stored off-site during the engine rebuild. I can't do anything half-a$$ed, so I bought new gauges, multi-circuit marine breaker/switch panel, marine USB charger outlets, etc...you know, the easy stuff. I was putting everything back together when I learned that the trim pump wasn't working...and that's where we left her in Sept 2014.

Almost five years later now, and my lovely bride (of 30 years) and I are REALLY wanting to get this boat out on the water. I'm very mechanically-inclined and my background is in electronics so I don't have any issue working on and troubleshooting anything electrical. However, I ALWAYS try to find schematics, wiring-, functional-, hydraulic-, pneumatic-, and any other kind of diagrams I can BEFORE I work on something. I research tirelessly before I crack anything open. Herein lies my quandary.

The V/P website is a nightmare for we "Yanks" - or maybe it's just me. I'm not sure why but every time I've tried to enter my transom ID numbers in their site, I get an error that indicates they haven't a clue....

So, I'm turning to the next best thing besides OEM: my iBoats gurus. I need help sourcing any and all diagrams and parts lists you might have or know where to find. My outdrive is a "290 Power Trim" I/O with a single prop. There are absolutely no other indicators anywhere on the upper or lower assemblies, save that of an ID tag on the Transom Bracket, port-side. I'll try to attach it to this post for reference, but in case I cannot, here are the data on that ID tag:

VOLVO PENTA
Mod: 867949 8624
Serial No: 324863
MADE IN SWEDEN

So, I guess what I'm looking for is a Technical or Service Manual for the V/P 290 stern drive. A manual or manuals that are extremely detailed - I know Volvo publishes these; I've seen ones for other drives and related systems. I'm not a prude or a leech. I'd pay for the right information. I also need to find drawings and parts lists for this trim pump assembly. It doesn't look that complicated. The steering in the craft is manual/cable, not powered so the pump simply has an up/down function with a couple limit switches, I'd suppose. I just want to know exactly what I'm getting into before I tear anything apart.

Now, in the event I cannot locate these documents and if I cannot fix this trim system with pure elbow grease, fortitude, and some good 'ol American engineering, does anyone know if there's a universal trim pump that could be used to replace the V/P OEM pump?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Curtis

EDIT/UPDATE: So I cannot attach the images to this post but I've dumped them out on my OneDrive. I'll try to embed the links here but if I cannot do so, here are the direct URLs to the images of the pump and outdrive:

Slow down and use punctuation.... I aint reading a post longer than 5 sentences

The trim pump on your VP is the same Parker Oildyne 108 used on Mercruiser.

Send me a PM with your email and I can send you the VP manual (which used to be free from Volvo
