sx-a drive gear fluid level

Hey guys just wondering if I could get anyone's thoughts on this subject. I just changed out my gear oil today and when I refill it if I fill it to the vent hole on the side it only shows up about half way up that notch on the dipstick. Of course I can put that screw back in the side and one more pump takes it on up but is that necessary or too much? Any thoughts can it be over filled? Or is anywhere in that notch the "safe zone" like the cross hatch on a motor oil dipstick?

Ayuh,...... Every dipstick I've ever seen, so long as the oil is within' the hash marks, yer good to go,......

Over-full is worst than a tiny bit under full,.... again, on anything with a dipstick,.....
