Hey guys, I have a 87 albemarle with a AQ271A Chevy 350. Everything runs fine but the coil is getting extremely hot to the touch. I just bough the boat and have not had it in the water yet. Afraid it may cut out after running it a while. I did find it was charging around 15.6 volts, found the Mando alternator was hooked up wrong. It is now charging 14.6 running. I have 12.6 on one side of the coil and 7 volts on the other. It has new a distributor that is electronic not points. Are these voltages on the coil normal? Do the coils run hot normal? Thanks

all depends on what coil was being used with the old dist. if the old was points there was a resistor inline with the coil.if an electronic version was installed the module requires 12volts but the coil does not
