We have a Volvo 5.0 GXI-E. Sounds and runs great at all speeds, but is consuming about 2-3x the fuel it should. No apparent leak from the fuel system in the engine compartment or from the fuel tank. When we stop the engine there is evidence of raw gas on the water surface behind the boat. Any ideas?

Sounds like a leaking injector or a cylinder at least isn’t firing.
Check your oil for signs or smell of fuel. Possible it’s rhat bad it’s washing fuel down the bores and into the sump. Not good.
If it’s the latter and because of an ignition issue. Check the diz cap is good or replace anyway. It’s due to fail at some point anyway.
Does your fuel pump prime and stop when ignition turned initially or does it keep running ?

check the plugs for sign of bad combustion on one of them. Likely see it blackened. A leaking or stuck open injector would be my first thought.

I agree with muc. I'm sure this is the issue. I just did this update myself due the same reason. It's an easy fix if you're handy.
