Is this a marine starter?

When I bought the boat, the guy gave me a spare starter. I tested it on the bench and it works fine. It looks like a rebuilt from a local shop since there are no stickers on it.

I don't know if you guys just by looking at the pictures can tell, but let's try.

Just curious, why did he give you a starter? Of all things when buying a boat a starter is not one of the things I would expect to be given.

No plate and no sticker. So not legal.
I may just carry it in case I'm stuck in middle of nowhere.

Starting the blowers long before and opening the hatch before starting to bring me back to shore.

Well, when I was younger and was off roading with a truck with an automatic transmission (no push start possible), I always carried a starter in case it died.
I suppose a boat is the same way of thinking.
With a bad alternator the engine can run a good 30 minutes if careful with the accessories, but if the starter dies, the boat won't move.
