Power steering actuator replacement

5.7GXI-C / SX-M outdrive. I need to replace power steering actuator due to leaking. Can this be done without removing the motor and outdrive or would it be better to remove motor? Any helpful tip would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you have to pull the drive every year for an inspection. pulling the motor is about an extra hours worth of work.

You should be able to get the actuator off without pulling engine, can you get a pic of it?

It's way back on the starboard side of the inner transom mount. I might try removing the starboard exhaust elbow, manifold and hoses etc first and see if that gives you enough room to work....

Interesting and a nice work around to Volvo's saying it can't be rebuilt!
