Anyone know if this is a block with 4 bolt mains? Understand it is an 880 casting and they come in two different versions. Alos trying to figure out if these are Vortex heads or not. Anyone?

Generally not a 4 bolt, but all V8 SBC motors after 96 are Vortec heads

The VP manual says that there is a light duty and heavy duty version of the SBCs and that the 4 bolt main caps are on the heavy duty. Not much other info other than that. No serial number reference or block casting references. Chevy site not any more helpful either. Got to believe GM had some wa of distinguishing these blocks other than doing a teardown and direct visual.

Ayuh,.... Why are ya concerned,..?? planin' a 4 or 5 hundred horsepower build,..??

What you've got, will hold up just fine, til ya abuse it,.....

Most boat motors don't die, they're killed by their owners,.....

No, not planning to build anything. This came up in a discussion about the 5.7 GSI and some checking around revealed the variation in the SBC engines as far as Vortec heads and the number of bolts on the main caps
