I am here in Fla, Use my boat weekly ,
Both engines are TWIN Volvo Penta 4.3 GXI
Electric fuel pumps purchased new 2 1/2 years old out of warranty.
.
Around 3 weeks ago , port engine would not start, ( cold ) cranking away ( starboard started fine )
THINKING no fuel getting too rails, ? since no fuel smell , checked fuel pump fuses ( good )
Shot either in throttle opening, fired up . Balance of day once started , started easily and no issue
Next day I tried starting engine , (cold), Same issue, cranking away not starting .
Tired something different, rather then shooting engine start I primed electric fuel pump. Turning key too start but not cranking many times hearing fuel pumps for those few seconds before it cuts off .
Tried firing engine, each time engine wanted too fire , then after the 5th time fired up and once fuel and fuel pump was doing what it was supposed too do it started each time there after .
Both engines feed off of one fuel tank , separate fuel lines going too each fuel pump
.
I will say fuel pump cells are not quiet . Port engine wines at times
Not eager too buy new fuel pumps
Engine was due for oil change & ;fuel filter change
Emptied fuel filters into a clean aluminum can and clearly fuel in filters were clean no dirt at all
After doing service same happened hard starting until I gave it help
MY THOUGHTS
Fuel dropping back from rails or pump not strong enough too pump fuel from cold start . After its going were ok .
If that is the case what cell should I consider
HIGH or Low side .
Never changing fuel cell pumps what can I expect ?
thanks in advance
