Gasket sealer for new intake/exhaust manifold?

On my Volvo 3.0, I am putting a new intake/exhaust manifold and gasket on. The service manual waffles on if gasket sealer should be used. I just had the head redone by a machine shop, and the manifold is new, so there surfaces should be flat. What should I do?

who's gasket? normally I use Felpro, no sealant required on the gasket

Per Volvo Penta service bulletin, they specifically recommend permatex copper spray-a-gasket. I just did my manifold/ risers. The bulletin says to use the sealant for the riser gaskets only, not the manifold gaskets on the head.
