  • 5.0GI Broken Valve Spring and Water in Cover

    Hi All,

So my 2001 Larson Escape (5.0 GI penta) was running real lousy (rich and under powered). Did a compression test and 7 of the 8 were in good shape ~160 psi, one of the cylinders was completely dead. Pulled the valve cover off to find a broken valve spring and a massive milk shake. Is the water in the valve cover related to the broken spring? Did one cause the other?

    Thanks

most likely you have been leaking water into the motor for some time, the valve guide is probably rusty, and the spring braking is a by-product of that.

only way to know is to pull the head.

if you boat in salt water, inspect your risers and manifolds.
