My steering bolt vibrated out. 839696 New or Old version?

I found the part number I need but apparently there is a old version and a new version. How do I figure out what to order to replace it? Its 839696. Is there a thread size I can check on the out drive or something? Where can I get a new bolt?

I'd assume its the newer one since '85 was about the last year for the 270 outdrive.
