Forum newbie here. Planning on a u-joint service on my 2005 Regal 1800 with sx-m drive this weekend. Will replace gimbal bearing and bellows at same time.
I just received the Sierra gimbal bearing from iboats store and it seems that the fit between the gimbal bearing and the cartridge is very tight. I tried prying the bearing with an alignment tool while holding cartridge in the vice and it would not budge. Reason I'm concerned is that close inspection of the bearing shows metal shavings/flash between the bearing and cartridge from when the bearing was assembled. To me, this is an indication that the fit is out of tolerance. I'm not comfortable having those metal shavings anywhere near the bearing surface.
Is this tight of a fit between the gimbal bearing and cartridge normal?
