I have a Ted Williams Sears 5 HP Clutch Shift outboard, chassis #217-59310, S/N 150074. I need to find a manual or any information on fuel ratio, type of gear oil and anything else that might help to get it running.

Hi merat54 and **** S. I don't want to hijack, but I'm in the same fix. I have my brother's old motor. He passed away in 1993. The number on a tag is 643-01A 5479050. Any info would be great. Thanks, John

Cool - it's a points motor. Get a load of this;

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/par.../00010367/00001?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=21759310

Parts are here;

http://www.boatsportandtackle.com/servlet/the-ESKA--dsh--Sears--fdsh--Ted-Wms/Categories

and at Certified Parts Corporation. I think their phone is 1-800-558-5402. You have to call them with your model number, and part numbers. You get part numbers from the Sears site. Then, you join this group;

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eskaoutboards/?v=1&t=directory&ch=web&pub=groups&sec=dir&slk=4010

might find a manual here - http://search.ebscohost.com/ Username - marshall, password public

You can get year model and oil ratio here;

http://home.earthlink.net/~brixent/searsid.htm

That motor is probably going to want a water pump impeller and a carb kit to be reliable and not burn down, but if you go to the trouble to set it up, you'll love the durned thang, and it'll just keep putt-putt-puttin' along.

Hmmm..... Somebody may have mentioned that your little jewel of an outboard would probably like a carb kit and a pump impeller - That individual would like to add the drive shaft seal, and water tube o-rings. Brown crap falling out of the exhaust may only mean it was stood in the mud. There's no gas in what? The tank? The carb?

Re: Ted Williams Sears 5 HP Clutch Shift motor

I just inherited a 5.5hp Ted Williams, model # T-643-14B. Don't know the first thing about it, but I have tore into it and started to TRY and fix it. What I'm not clear on is the impeller...does this model have an impeller? The engine looks to be air cooled as the cylinder has fins like a motorcycle. Just ordered a new condenser, magneto and points as I couldn't get it started and didn't appear to have any spark. Any other advice?

You are hijacking a thread, chrisj13 - it's considered poor form. You need to look around the transom clamp, and find the Sears number. It will look like 217.XXXXXX. Get that number, and either post your own question, or re-read the earlier respones to this thread;

the shift bar snaped the shift nob
You did it or it did it or what and JB weld what?... what really happend to this poor little motor?
You sound really scattered on this post and with out some punctuation I can't help you and I sure can't tell whats going on.
Do you even know what model it is?

And according to the rules you should start a new thread of your own.

Re: Ted Williams Sears 5 HP Clutch Shift motor

Okay you know the shift nob on the side thats black and shifts it from neutrile to drive the circle on it that the bar goes through snaped. So i used j-b weld to make it a ring agin.

So it works now and as to earler i found 2 others that work. Both 5, hp. Oh you were right brown stuff was probly mud changed lower unit and just cleaned carb out really good put new spring in it and works great. The other one i gave to my friend it needs a pull start and gasget for the part were the duel line meets with the external feul tank line. but theres a company that makes a gel that you shap and becomes a gasget to fit worked good on a old johson motor i still use.

i have check what year but its a 7.5 sears game fisher for the most part all look up serial number agin
