How do I remove this?

I have a 1974 15 hp ted Williams that I have replaced all my seals and gaskets except for one because I do not know how to get down to it. Below the impeller is the impeller base plate and directly below that is a nylon/plastic piece that I'm trying to figure out how to remove without destroying it. Anyone have any info?

Do you really need to remove it?.....Do you have a replacement part if you screw it up getting it out?....

It would just spin in place and not back itself out. However, it tightens just fine. Bushings underneath are leaking oil. I just rtv'd around the edges.
