Yamaha L4 3.0

I have a Yamaha L4 3.0 stern drive. I had the lower shift cable changed, and haven't used it but one time since then. When I shift in F or R it binds up and stalls. I have removed the lower end, and noticed the shift slide was sticking because the cabe was slightly bent. Fortunately I was able to bend it straight and the slide moves freely now. However there is adjustment that needs to be made on this side of the cabe does anyone know how to adjust it properly;I can't find anything online? Please see white arrow. The bolt on top removes, then you can turn the collar in or out on the lower stud. I just don't know how far to turn in or out.
