I put my boat into forward and as it excellerated it jumped into neutral. Now it will not shift into forward or reverse but the shift lever moves like it is shifting but it does not go into gear. If you put the lever into forward you can turn the propeller either direction like it is in neutral. Help any ideas?? It is a 1993 King Cobra stern drive.

Thank you

Sounds like a broken shift cable, either from the lever to the engine or the engine to the drive. You may get more and better advice if you post this in the OMC forum.

Looks like you asked the same question in 2 different forums. The answer is the same.

I don't think there's anyone here that can (or would want to try to) walk you step-by-step through the procedure to R&R and adjust a lower shift cable on an (interim) OMC Cone clutch drive.

If it's done wrong it can damage the drive permanently.

You will to have obtain a correct year OMC service manual if you want to try to do it yourself.

As I said in the other post, It MAY be a 92 model year drive. The model number on the engine will determine what year it is.

For example:

744CPEJVB 1993
744DPEJVB 1993
744DPPJVB 1993

744CPEAMH 1992
744DPEAMH 1992
744DPPAMH 1992
