Trying to determine appropriate divorced choke to go with this OMV 185 Quadrajet set-up. Previous owner indicated he removed it because it "wasn't working" but after I started looking into this more, I'd like to get it back on. I believe the correct type is where the spring will move up as it gets hot, but not sure which one of the models shown here (https://quadrajetparts.com/quadrajet-chokes-c-128_23.html) would be appropriate. Hoping someone with more knowledge than me would be able to give me some advice. Thanks in advance.

this electric conversion will probably work for you, I have one but haven't installed it yet because the Cobra shift linkage plate is too close for it to fit, this spring I am going to investigate trimming it a bit so this will fit.
BTW, the old style choke on mine works and always has, but they open slow because these engines run cooler than the automotive versions that the choke was originally designed for.

if you want to use the old style one (simpler, no electricals to fail which can happen)
I believe it is this one.....

and then you get the tin cover that goes over it and the link to connect it to the carb linkage..there is one of those little clips that secures it when it goes through the linkage...

see the notch in the link, that's where the little retainer clip goes

to adjust you bend the link....

keep in mind the manifold heated choke will only work if the exhaust cross over in the intake is open and not clogged with carbon. It needs to get up to about 130* for the choke to fully open. I have found that idling with no load it will never open all the way, it needs to be run. Now on the other hand I have seen electric chokes on marine Holleys that open all the way after idling for about 3-5 min. This style will not do that.

Thanks Gents - a wealth of knowledge in two posts. I guess for the price, it might make more sense to go with the electric conversion. One thing I've been trying to wrap my head around (since the boat is in storage and I can't check....) is where the default position for the choke plate is when the choke is removed. I thought they fell closed. If the choke is supposed to be there to open the plates when warm, and mine is removed, do they swing open under vacuum naturally? The boat runs fine (as far as I can tell - I've got the quadra-bog under quick hard acceleration) - it starts hard when cold lately, but I beleive that to be a bad accelerator pump plunger and I've got parts on order to fix that. Is my bog related to the lack of forced open choke plates?
