I am preparing to do my service and winterize. I want to drain and change the gear oil. I understand that my unit originally used omc HI-VIS. I have been told by a local omc guy to use evinrude hpf gear oil.
my question is who has a similar unit and what do you use? For how long?
thank you

You can also use the Mercury/Quicksilver High Performance gear lube, I have used it in my Cobra for over 10 years with good results and it can be found everywhere...

Thank you for the responses. I was fortunate today, the previous owner contacted me and says he uses 85w. With that I think that the quicksilver should be good. And I will save quite a bit over the other choices

I read some tests of marine gear oil some years back and the Mercruiser/Quicksilver stuff is one of the best there is, the newer Evinrude oils are very good too. I use Quicksilver stuff (motor oil, drive oil, engine oil filters) because they are very easy to find where I am.
