OMC 4.3lv6 shift cable alignment

I have a 92 Bayliner with a 4.3l OMC Cobra engine. I had some shifting problems and some gear engagement problems. I would shift to neutral position and it would stay in gear. Additionally if I would shift into reverse it would actually go into a forward gear 1 out of 10 times. So I ended up taking the shift box apart cleaning it taking the shift cables off cleaning them and now I'm installing them and I want to make sure I'm using the alignment tool properly. I'm looking for some literature instruction manual does anyone have any info or can you lead me in the right direction

You need to replace your cable. Reusing your old cable is false economy.

Do you have both alignment tools? One is used at the transom to hold the bellcrank and one is used at the linkage at the top of the engine.

BTW, didn't know they used OMC in 1992. Back in 1989, the parent company of Mercruiser bought Bayliner so they never used OMC after that.
