I have a 1979 OMC Chevy small block 260HP. It currently has the Mallory distributor with points and wanted to know if anyone has any experience with replacing the points with either a sierra marine electronic ignition conversion or hot-spark.com conversion?

I am aware of the diode/resister fix needed for the ESA to operate properly. Just looking for anyone with experience good or bad with either of these or others?

IMHO I'd stick with the points. Less trouble than that damned electronic ignition. Experience talking.

Agreed. Kept mine all this time. Was good enough for us in the '70s still works now with no electronic mystery boxes that become NLA sooner or later.
