Just how do you measure the lenght of a trolling motor shaft. From below the control box to the top of motor or some other points? I am confused. I have been advised to buy a 52" shaft but I don't know how to measure.
Thanks
jimpittman

Jim,

Moving your post to outboards section. I believe you will get a better response.

Jimpittman
Messure from the deck you plan to mount it on to the water then add 12 inches.

Minnkota specs,

The shaft length is from the base of the control box or head down to the collar on the motor or lower unit.

To find the shaft length requirements for your boat. Measure from deck where the motor is to be mounted down to the water line of the boat when at rest. Add 16 to 20 inches to this measurement. A shaft of this length will work well in most conditions.
