So I bought an '84 Baja BR 184 with no engine. It's rated up to 170hp but I don't think I need that much. Lookin for anything from 90-150 but can't find any decent used motors around me. Any idea how much they go for roughly? Don't really wanna shell out a ton of $$$$ on a brand new one.

If the boat is rated for a 170 then you should not be considering a 90 as it barely 1/2 the rated HP. The rule of thumb is for acceptable performance you want 70 - 75% of the rated HP. So with that in mind, be looking for 120 or bigger. Did you not know iBoats sells outboards. Scroll to the top of the page and you will see an OUTBOARD. Click on it. See what they have.

Where in Illinois are you? I am always seeing motors in that hp range on the chicago craigslist , also some reputable guys in my neighborhood selling used.

I regreted too much HP when buying gas, I regreted not enough HP when trying to out run a storm on the Gulf, everything is a trade-off
