Welcome to Iboats.

Let's figure out exactly what year it is first. There should be a metal tag on the transom mount with model number. Post that, and we can tell you what year it is.

Howdy, raney.

Welcome to iboats. :)

A lot of people "know" the right fuel mix for that little gem. The problem is that we know different mixes. :(

Here is my own experience with a Johnny JW-13, same engine in different uniform.

Originally the instructions on the tank said to mix one half pint of 30W non-detergent motor oil per gallon. That was a 16:1 mix. Lot of smoke and bad (a matter of taste) smell, but she ran fine.

1964: Oil made specifically for outboard engines became available. OMC published in its 1964 edition of the Johnson Service Manual that all engines made by OMC before 1964 should use a quart of outboard oil per 6 gallons of regular gas. That is a 24:1 mix.

That rule: 24:1 using outboard oil that is now certified to meet TC-W3 standards and 87 octane regular unleaded, held up until recently when papers got published calling for the little guys to go back to 16:1 or to 20:1.

That is what many guys will tell you. Use 16:1.

I ran my little Johnny on 24:1 for many years and she never complained. Others have run their little JohnnyRudes for 50 years on 24:1.

If I had your 'Rude, I would run 24:1.

yep,
looks like Evinrude used that same tag # for the years you posted :redface:;
Model--HP--- Year
3012___3___ 1952-54

I take it you probably already looked it up here;

Like JB said, it should run just fine at 24:1 with a modern 2 stroke oil. Not exactly like there is a huge difference between mixing at 24:1 VS 20:1 and 16:1 anyways.

I like premium gas @ 16:1. Seems to run smoother and more efficient.
