Speedo but backed up by other faster boaters. Explanation is the fiberglass Cadormat R200 was a very light boat for it's size 20X8X42

Re: how fast does your outboard-powered boat run?

Pretty wide open question.

A bunch of guys on scream and fly are using outboards to top 100mph.

I did a little searching and it looks like the speed record for a single outboard engine is 176.5 mph set by Bob Wartinger in 1989 running a modified Evinrude (I like mentioning that fact to Mercury fanatics!). I haven't seen where that's been broken yet.

I think I'll be satisfied when I get my Checkmate up to 70, that's plenty fast enough.

176 mph is INSANE..how would he even keep that boat on the water..its must of been a light hull if only a single outboard. and i agree 70 mph is plenty fast. i'd be a happy person if i had a 60mph boat. out of reach with my ChrisCraft

i have a 1973 18 foot crestliner muskie and have had 3 different engines on it. a 1975 merc i6 150 that went 47mph,a 1992 suzuki 150 that went 64 mph and a 1988 merc i4 115 that goes 43 mph. the 115 uses about half the fuel of the 1992 150.

Been a little while I posted...

My great fiberglass 14 footer Crestliner shown in my signature does 30 MPH at WOT even with 2 adults. Not bad for a 45 years old boat. With some few parts replacement for the next season, I hope It'll last another 5-10 years!

This little 10 foot puppy goes 45 with a 50HP engine. The bigger 14 foot boat tops out at 60 with a 125.

Never had the gps on it yet but my glastron gt-150 w/ a 84 merc 90hp i-6 will do at least 50mph, probably a bit more. That's plenty fast on a 15' boat with a 600 and something pound dry weight hull.
