Compression Check on Outboards

I was told you should put the spark plugs back into the wires after removal to prevent damaging the coils. Is this the right way to do the check?

Hi Nicko,<br />I've never had a problem,but most of the time I put the plug in the wire so I don't mix them up. The early 70s Merc fishing motors could burn the CD box if you didn't.<br />So it became a habit for me. I've never heard of the coils going out,but the new ing sys put a lot more voltage into the coil than the old systems.So it could be possible.<br />When in doubt,don't risk it.
