How do you properly mount an outboard motor? Should the cavitation plate be level with the bottom of the hull???? Thanks

Re: motor mount height?????

Hi chrisross,
As a general rule, yes you are right.
It does depend on the motor(HP & yr),type of boat and speeds hoped to be obtained. Also
the prop style will make a difference as to how high the motor can be mounted.
If you need more info post what you have for a more detailed set up.
...have fun...corm

Yes crisross,
With the Merc 85 mount it even with the bottom of the boat.Because of the length of
the boat you will need the leverage of the std instalation to trim the boat the way you like it to ride.A 20 degree stainless steel
prop of the pitch that lets the motor rev to
5500rpm will give you more trim control than
a 15 degree Aluminum prop of the same pitch.
If when you water test it and you get alot of side spray from the motor you may have to raise it up 1/2 inch so drill the holes at the top of the slots in the motor incase you have to do this.
...have fun...corm
