As noted in a previous thread, not all "after-market" repair manuals are infallible; one of the issues I've encountered is my Seloc manual giving two different numbers for drive shaft sockets in separate sections. (OMC 311875, 316612). Is there a resource somewhere that will allow you to identify what motor a specific tool is applicable to? A tool catalog per se?

Factory shop manual is the best way to go. The seloc manual makes a nice kneepad.

Is it because there are different splines on V-4 motors over the years.-----Coarse spline up to 72 and a fine spline after that year !

Thank you both. Thanks for the education on spline issues, it does look like the 316612 is more coarse than the 311875; hopefully my factory manual is on it's way.

Can anyone possibly tell me (racerone?), which part number applies to the fine spline socket/adapter?
