I'm looking for a used one and came across a 2002 VMAX 250 Yamaha Ox66 with around 125hrs on it. If I went with the VMAX, would I be able to use the same rigging?

I also found a 2005 Suzuki df250 that has between 800 and 900 hrs on it.

These are about the best I could find around here while being on a budget other than just rebuilding my old one. I've always had stern drives and have no knowledge in outboards as far as reliability. All I know for sure is it sucks being stranded, especially with my kids.

I'm just seeking some advice.

Thanks

I could be wrong, but I thought VMAX are/where 20” shaft motors

didnt think about that. One more stupid question. Would a newer 150 push the boat like the older 200's? My Yamaha would cruise at 35 no problem and get over 40 pushing it which i rarely did.

Anything less than rated hp hurts performance. Anything less than 75% rated hp hurts resale.

horsepower is horsepower....Reducing your hp by 25% would surely make it a dog

Thanks again. Ok, one more.. My boat is a 2000 Angler 220. The back says 265 is the highest hp. If I went 4 stoke, it'll weight around 150lbs more. Does that matter?

Don’t know your boat well enough to say for sure, but I doubt it.

Wouldn’t make a darn bit of difference on my boat of similar size
