A lot of very good oil gets thrown out by owners.----Just like a lot of coils / powerpacks.-----How many times do we read----Installed new coils, stator , powerpack and motor still runs the same.-----I live in an area where the season is short.------Gear oil lasts for many years on properly sealed ( mine ) lower units -----A simple and blunt opinion for you !

One purpose to change lower unit oil is to check if a seal is leaking causing water in lower unit....this is especially important if you're running in salt water....a quart of lower unit oil is very cheap preventive maintenance....a lower unit rebuild due to water intrusion/corrosion is expensive. I change mine once a year at the end of the season.

So a thread is closed because it was turning into a cat fight and it's moved next door. Please!
