I had a cylinder go down on my 1993 Mariner 175 Magnum EFI, so I'm looking at swapping it out with another used outboard (way cheaper than a rebuild). I found a 1997 Mercury 225 hp. I know the 150-200 hp mercury/mariner motors in those years were basically identical and my controls should work, but not sure if going up to a 225 would make them incompatible. Thanks in advance... I did a few searches, but couldn't turn up anything this specific. Found a pretty good deal on this motor, so looking to make a move fairly quick if it is compatible.

I expect the mechanicals of the controls to work. The wiring harness could be different form, but the function should be the same.

Your '93 Merc should have the round plug plus external PTT wiring. With some luck the '97 will be the same.
