Trying to setup up some stands to work on some outboards. Other then water and fuel what is the process to run a outboard engine on a stand off of a boat?

Big outboard or small ones?

Small outboards . . . just pull the starter cord.

Larger outboards . . . might need some electrical hookup.

The other tricky part is finding (making) a stand that will accept a barrel of water, in the right place to cool the motor, and with water level high enough to cool it. A cover that fits the barrel around the motor will help keep the water in it, if you want to test the motor in gear, is a real good idea.

You can run any motor on a stand with ear muffs wile geared forward at say 1-1.5 K revs with better water pressure than at idle. Gearing forward any large motor on a barrel is a bad idea specially if having a large prop, will deplete large amounts of water inside the barrel.

You can flush any clamped motor with fresh water or test it sitting on a proper motor stand while running geared forward at way higher rpm than idle/fast idle rpm.

Wll assure flushing with a higher water pressure running throughout the entire powerhead. Flush it till motor dies of fuel starvation. Works spot on if having a proper open place to do so and if the wife permits so...LOl!!
