Mercury 150 Black Max

I have a 80 ish 150 Black Max ser OA994269 would love to know what year and a little about motor thanks for all the help

You can look up the year on the maxrules site, by serial number.

Depending on the year, it will be a 2 liter or 2.5 liter 60* V6 motor. The engine is of a proven design and is still in production, although with an updated ignition system.

I'm cornfused. The SN would indicate about 1987, which would be a 2-stroke antique. Sure, proven design (if you're into Mercs), but "still in production" - I thought they haven't been made for 30 years or so. Or, are we talking about parts availability?

The site I was on shows only 4 strokes made now.Didnt even show the optimax.Maybe their like Yamaha where 2 strokes are still made just not for n.a. market and Europe I believe.

The current Optimax shares the same block as his carb'ed 2 cycle motor. That motor was made up until Merc stopped production on carb'ed and EFI motors, likely in the 2000's. Production on that motor started in 1978.

I think that makes it a proven design....

I have looked all over cannt find ser number listed single my first mercury ob it was completely overhauled last year but don't know any thing about it thanks for help

Yes, sure is proven I guess.

I'm easily cornfused. I didn't know that the Optimaxes used the same blocks as the oldies.

So how about the 3.0 liter 150 HP 4-strokes. Are they proven yet? Any good?
