Is winterizing an outboard required?

Store in the normal running position.----Make sure there is no water in the gear oil.-----make sure water drain holes in lower unit are clear of debris.

Of course it is! But then again it depends on what you mean by "Winterizing". Regardless of the temps, if the engine is not going to be run for the "Winter" let's just call it "Off Season Storage".

Fill the tank and Stabilize the gas, fog the engine, flush with fresh water, change the oil and the lower unit lube,etc. Just like the Owners's Manual says.

No, they are self draining. Leave it upright and it'll be fine. If you want run some fuel stabilizer through it before storage

It all depends on how long it's going to sit on what you're going to do to it and what climate you're in.
