I have a 1974 Mako 20 with a 22" transom. I was given a 1986 200 25" Yamaha that needed a new lower that I happened to have. Will using a fixed bracket to gain the extra transom height I need be a good idea? If it is a good idea how big of a setback should I go for? The boat seemed pretty well balanced with the 1986 140 25" Johnson but the engine was set much too deep in the water.

Thank yall ahead of time for any advice yall can share.

with brackets, you need to go up as the motor goes back.

just like your Johnson, the 25" leg length was too long then, will be too long now, and with a bracket will be that much more too long

your going to have to raise the motor up a bit, and it usually involves trial and error.

The lift aspect was my reasoning for looking into a bracket or even a manual jack plate. The plates I was looking allow for a minimum of 1.5" lift on a 4" plate. If I mounted my engine at the top of its adjustment plane with the extra 1.5" lift would that be enough to get back to level? Cmc manual plates are about 300 for 5" of lift so that would be entirely possible as well.
