A friend offered me a elgin 7.5 for free..Im taking a wild guess by pictures that its a 1953 or there abouts.Who made elgin exactly?Common parts such as coils ,points, impeller still around or interchangeable with ?I do not need it but it might make an interesting little motor.

Is it green? I think there were 3 different manufacturers. Early was West Bend later was McCulloch and after that was Eska or clinton.

probably west bend built. There is a whole website dedicated to those motors. There are a lot of them out there. They are good engines not valuable and parts are available.

No intention what so ever to sell or make money expecially after reading on one site the if you found one in a box brand new never used it might break a hundred, lol. And that was a site where they liked them, lol.Always nice to have a spare cheap kicker motor hanging around though.

Its a West Bend, if its the era you suggest. All normal tune-up type parts are still available. Try Laing's Outboards.

If you provide a model number I'll pin it down for you.

Its a 1955 7.5 hp model number 571-58771 spark plug j11c.Coils are gone apparently and I suppose the impeller is pooched also.Starting instructions are still easy to read and if you look closely you can see a modern plastic gas cap, lol. Its a spigot off of 5 gallon water jug.My friend said the coils look like the old omc coils .Anybody know if their the same?

From what I can find gas/oil mix is 3/4 of a pint of 30w oil to 1 gallon of gas .So using a decent quality 2 stroke oil would that be 16 to 1 ?

Sorry I would of answered your pm earlier but I got turned around .That's no problem I will get ahold of the right flyingscott for my needs from amoic.Watched a youtube vid on the coils and even if their not the same you simply bend the tang on the coil and use the good coil on the old steel laminate.
