Hey everyone
I am seeking advice

I have a 1974 grew hard top with a 302 merc and a 888 out drive.

The time has come for me to make a decision, my out drive is shot and so is the gimbal housing.

Having rebuilt boats in the past I am not afraid of a little bit of hard work and the headaches that comes with a project.

That being said I also appreciate feedback and lessons learned from fellow boaters.

What I was wondering is due to the age of the motor.
Should i be looking at a donor boat with a newer engine and out drive to re power?
Try to find a 888 out drive?
Will an alpha gen 1 out drive and gimbal housing bolt right up to the transom plate?

looking forward to your feedback

Thank you

Ayuh,...... The outdrive isn't a problem, an Alpha 1 will fit yer transom housing,.....

The problem is the transom housing, 'n the Ford motor,.....

The MC-1 inner plate, may, or may not bolt to an alpha transom housing,.....
The y-pipe I don't think will,....
'n yer stuck with the antique trim/ tilt system,....

No doubt, the Best idea is a donor boat, with Chevy power, 'n an Alpha Gen.II outdrive swap,.....
