Exhaust manifold, riser and elbow question

I'm starting to shop for what will be my first I/O boat. My experience so far has been with outboards.

One boat I'm looking at has had new manifolds installed but supposedly not the risers. The dealer has told me that the risers may survive one or two more seasons. I've been googling these terms and I'm still not sure where in the exhaust path the risers sit. In simple terms, I know the manifold attaches to the engine block and the elbow attaches to the top of the manifold. Is the riser between the manifold and the elbow as some type of spacer? Some of the search results seem to make it look like the elbow and riser are one in the same.

some people call elbows risers, however you are correct, a riser is a spacer under the elbow and used on some larger boats.

not all of the installations use risers. some use extended length elbows.
