3.0L Alpha 1 ...I have differing opinions on Prop pitch. One guy tells me 16/17 and another tells me 19/21. Which is correct?

Which ever one gets you to a WOT around 4600 to 4800 but this depends on what year 3.0 you have. Older models are 4600 and newer models are 4800 rpm

The guys who recommended so definitely don't use tachs...does not matter to them to use one or the other as long the combo is being powered..

Depends on gear ratio, rpm, hull, prop design, and desired use.

In my 3.0 powered boat, i had a 19p for cruising and heading to a fishing hole, a 17p for when loaded with people and a 15P for water sports (skiing)

It's an 18 foot bowrider 3.0L 4cyl 1986. How do I find out the gear ratio though?

You should have a 1:98 and your WOT would be 4600. So load your boat the way you use it most and do the things you want to d0. Then see if youor rpm gets close to 4600
